3G Mobile Phones Technology
As mobile phones became
an essential part of everyday life, 3g mobile phones technology is
quickly becoming a standard feature on every handset the wireless
companies offer. |
|
3g simply means "third generation" based on the amount
of data the network can distribute to a device. This does not take up
space on the GSM bandwidth because it's a separate signal working side
by side to handle wireless data and to help eliminate dead zones in the
metro areas.
What does this mean for
the regular consumers like you and I? Well, this gives us wireless
internet, multimedia messages, video calls, better sound quality, and
GPS technology. With more markets going up, some may need to upgrade to
keep getting the service to enjoy the whole package that will be
available to them soon.
The internet service offered on 3g mobile phones won't replace the
experience a desktop or laptop can offer. However, many webmasters have
designed mini sites to give same amount of info without all the fluff.
This way networks won't crash as often from high levels of data being
accessed.
Out of this idea came another video format called 3gp. This allowed
users to download videos to their phones and fast uploads of quick
clips to YouTube and other social sites. It's also a small enough file
to match the mini sites like a nice pair of cuff links. Video calls are
a relatively new feature being used in some regions of the world. Using
the existing camera or a separate one, this allows callers to see their
contact just like video chat on a computer. The quality is not that
great, but it will be interesting to see this take off worldwide.
GPS support gave users the ability to use their mobile phone as a
navigation device. The wireless companies market this towards business
execs, the military, and anyone who is on the road constantly, but
regular customers are enjoying it just as much.
Better call quality was an extra perk that came out of testing 3g
mobile phones on the small network setups in the R&D lab. This also
helped early, expensive models get into the consumer's hands sooner
than expected.
Even with all of these features available, 3g mobile phones still need
to be cheaper and have more battery life if they are to gain in
popularity. Many wireless providers offer good deals on 3g mobile
phones, but many are either too expensive, unreliable, or have
unavailable coverage in certain areas.
As new technology comes in to expand coverage, it's only matter of time
before the major industry players jump on board. Once that happens,
smaller providers, like Boost Mobile, will be able to offer 3g service
just as great as T-Mobile do now. More providers means cheaper cell
phone bills for us all and possibly an improvement in customer service.
3g mobile phones are the best on the market, but always shop around to
get a great deal for what you're looking for. |

Camera Features On 3G Mobile Phones
Most 3g mobile phones
have cameras on them. Many use them for quick candid snapshots. But
what about the folks who what to capture their kids' soccer games or
family vacations with the quality of a camcorder? |
|
While some mobile-phone
makers do offer more than the standard 2-3 megapixels on their devices,
many of the cheaper models don't have all of the features needed to
take photos and video with ease.
If you're willing to
spend a little more than the discount prices at the wireless stores,
you can get features such as image stabilization, auto focus, DVD
quality video, and editing applications that can help capture those
precious moments with excellent clarity.
Megapixels do help too with the resolution, but it doesn't mean that
the quality will be better. Auto focus helps the camera adjust to the
lighting and objects in view. Outdoor shots would benefit from having
this the most. If you prefer indoor shots, having a flash is mandatory
to get the shot in low light areas.
Filming in total darkness is very difficult to do on any of the 3g
mobile phones, so you're better off with a camcorder in those
situations. In the near future, this will be available on some of the
more expensive models until the technology becomes cheaper to produce.
Image stabilization is another feature needed for anyone trying to
record video or take a picture of a moving object. This has been the
number 2 complaint of YouTube video filmed on the 3g mobile phones
(number 1 is picture quality). Sure, you can operate the camera, but
can you hold it steady?
Pictures are only half of the equation if your 3g mobile phones capture
video. Some phone manufacturers are able to offer DVD-quality video by
adding more advanced lenses. Since camcorder lenses are too large to
fit, these offer the same high-quality video while taking less room for
the hardware needed. This is one feature that has been desired since
people started using camera phones for more than just quick snapshots.
After you get he phots you want, you can then look over any
mistakes you may want to correct. You can either buy software that can
be confusing and pricey or get 3g mobile phones with software built-in.
Not many offer this feature, but those that do allow you to correct red
eye, ad filters, crop, and other tools.
For the videos, you can edit and combine clips to create mobile movies
on the go. Built-in editing is great for aspiring photographers and
filmmakers that don't care about budgets for production.
If you know how to work with only a couple of these features to produce
good quality, then you will be suprised to find 3g mobile phones
with cameras for less than $100.
Buying 3g mobile phones with all these features will set you back up to
$700 and only two companies offer such devices: Nokia and Sony
Ericsson.
The benefit of spending more can be tempting, but is not needed for
everyone to get great photos and videos. Sometimes, it's all about
getting the right shots at the right moment.

Video Calling Using 3G Mobile Phones
There are times when
talking and texting can't replace face-to-face contact. Businessmen and
other commuters understand this more than anyone else.
Since 3g mobile phones have come onto the market with cameras built-in,
many people havr thought "How could we do video calls on the go?" |
|
Video
calling has been a cheap way for companies to meet without the hassle
of flying cross-country. With new devices and upgraded networks, mobile
video calls are just beginning to gain their 15 minutes of fame and
show off what's coming soon.
Video calls are not much different from web cams. They're smaller, use
less power, and sometimes hidden because of the design. The best 3g
mobile phones suited for this have a separate camera on the front,
since you can see who you're talking to.
If you would rather show someone a one-way video stream, some companies
in the U.S. offer video sharing on compatible 3g mobile phones. It's a
step ahead, but other countries have the service up and running right
now. This has to do with the bandwidth for 3g networks in place. Once
more coverage is available, the wireless companies will have the
infrastructure needed to video calling in motion. After that, all they
need is the right price for phones and service to get everyone's
attention.
So how would anyone use this in real life? Deaf and speech-impaired
people have been using video calling from home. This would help them do
the same on the go and when they need to send quick video messages
(think of a text message in sign language).
Military personnel would not only love this feature, but should be
given a heavy discount on these 3g mobile phones. The idea that you
would be able to see friends and family anytime they're able to, would
put a huge grin on even the toughest soldier's face in the field.
Businessmen are an obvious choice, but are not new to this technology.
Since many companies use this for conferences, having 3g mobile phones
with video calling could finally give every business a way to meet
clients and consumers face to face (at least with the help of a camera).
It will be interesting to see if video calling on 3g mobile phones will
become the next step in mobile communicating. Text and video messages
have their uses, but being able to see the person makes the time more
enjoyable for some. These days, people don't interact face to face as
much with e-mail, prerecorded messages, text, tweets, and IM chats.
With so much available, it has made some communicate by text alone,
which can be a little sad and a little creepy. Whether it's just a fad,
paranoia, or the lifestyle they choose to live, maybe we could use a
little less alone time and just chill with other people. But for the
road warriors out there, video calling is the next best thing coming
around the corner. |

Working
9 to 5 can involve several tasks and projects to keep up with for the
corporations out to make their mark. For many they need all of the
essential PC tools like excel, e-mail, WiFi, and others, but not have
to buy a second device. For these hard working folks, the wireless
companies offer 3g mobiles phones with a PC interface called smart
phones. These special devices are as easy to use as other phones, but
have extra power to handle PC applications on the go. |
|
However, there are multiple operating systems designed be not only
mobile phone manufacturers, but also software developers like Google
have ones available. From bite-sized applications and multiple document
support, to worldwide connectivity and full HTML web browsing, these 3g
mobile phones are ready to handle any workload.
Most people would agree that Blackberry dominates the business sector,
and the OS that is installed works to give the user every application
needed to send in power points, spreadsheets, and word documents with
ease. However, if you're looking for fun and function, Symbian is the
most popular worldwide because of its versatility on smart phones and
regular 3g mobile phones.
The user interface can be customized by either the user or
manufacturers making the device. It's also another way to slap their
logo on to let callers know who gives them service every month. Just as
expected, Apple and Microsoft had get involved with the market at some
point. While Apple's iPhone wasn't marketed as a smart phone at launch,
their app store did provide the software needed to be just as
competitive.
Microsoft did a simpler approach with a mobile version of Windows, but
only 9% of the available devices use it. Other companies like Linux and
Palm have theirs as well.
So is there anything special with these operating systems? Just the
interface and document support. Beyond that, all you need to know is
how to navigate through the OS itself. Symbian can be confusing and
sluggish, but does not crash as often as its rivals.
Windows Mobile has some of the same, but also has trouble working with
Apple computers. The iPhone is great when it comes to speed and setup,
put lacks support for flash. Each one of these smart phones has its
strengths and weaknesses, so all you can do is shop around. There are
multiple options available with all 3g mobile phones and smart phones.
The main benefit from these is a better setup to navigate through all
of your content and access the web. Even if you removed the OS and put
it on a computer, it still comes down to how you want everything to
work together. They will cost a bit more than other 3g mobile phones,
but they are pack with enough features and support to handle any task
you give it. As more developers get in on the action, we'll see how
much can be done just within the palm of our hands.
